Jewelry Care

We take great care to provide jewelry with quality materials that have been sustainably-sourced, and are proud to offer a locally-made biodegradable jewelry cleaner which is safe for most materials.

Each material has its own unique qualities and upkeep - and what may be right for one person can be different for another. Body chemistry varies greatly, and metals may react differently to their environment or the pH level of your skin. Our staff is trained to help you source the right materials for your lifestyle, and we're happy to answer any of your questions. Please keep in mind that jewelry that has been worn is ineligible for returns or exchanges, please refer to our policy here.

Material

Gold Plated: A thin layer of gold over a metal, typically brass or copper

Gold Vermeil: A specific type of gold-plating - a layer of gold at least 2.5 microns thick over sterling silver.

Care

 - Avoid Moisture and chemicals, including lotions, perfumes, chlorine, and sweat. Wash with warm water and soap, and wipe dry.

- Buff with a soft cotton or microfiber cloth, avoid any abrasive polishing.

Gold-Filled: A solid layer of gold mechanically bonded to a core of either brass, copper, or sterling silver. At least 5% of the total weight of the item is karat gold. Provides wearability closest to solid gold, and can last for decades with proper care.

- Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture and chemicals. Shower-safe, but it is best to avoid chlorine and other harsh chemicals.

- Buff with a soft cotton or microfiber cloth.

Solid Gold: Pure gold (24K) mixed with other metals to produce different karat values, with varying attributes and coloring. Gold is resistant to tarnishing and corrosion.

- Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture and chemicals. Shower-safe, but it's best to avoid chlorine and other harsh chemicals.

- Polish with a specialized cloth, cleaning solution, or ultrasonic cleaner.

Sterling Silver: 92.5% silver mixed with another metal alloy, typically copper. Sterling Silver is harder than pure silver, and ideal for jewelry.

Brass/Bronze: A copper alloy, blended with mostly tin and zinc. A durable material, and close to gold in appearance. Over time, a patina will develop as the metal oxidizes and forms a protective layer. Some prefer this 'vintage' look, or you may polish to restore its shine.

- Avoid Moisture and chemicals, including lotions, perfumes, chlorine, and sweat. Wash with warm water and soap, and wipe dry.

- Polish with a specialized cloth, cleaning solution, or ultrasonic cleaner.

It is always recommended to remove your jewelry when engaging in activities like gardening, exercising, or washing the dishes. Store jewelry in a dry location.
